An introduction to the KNB

The Royal Netherlands Notarial Organisation (KNB) is a professional organisation under public law. All notaries and junior notaries in the Netherlands are members of the KNB.

The main task of the KNB is to ensure the observance of good standards of professional practice by notaries and junior notaries in the Netherlands and to promote their professionalism.

What's on?

The Royal Netherlands Notarial Organisation (KNB) is engaged in several (policy) issues. At this moment the main topics are:

  • developments in private company law;
  • the set up of a central digital shareholder register;
  • involvement of notaries in the arrangements for a divorce.

CEA Conference

From 10-12 May the European Affairs Commission of the UINL, the global organisation of notaries, held a conference in Amsterdam. 55 notaries from all over Europe discussed matters of common interest, such as the role of the notary, the profession of notaries in the future and continuing education.

Ruud van Gerven, president of KNB, the Royal Netherlands Notarial Organisation, delivered the opening speech. Nora van Oostrom-Streep, professor for notarial law at Utrecht university, held a lecture on independence and impartiality.

Association

  • The Royal Netherlands Notarial Organisation (KNB) is associated with two international organisations:
  • > the UINL (Union Internationale du Notariat): a global organisation consisting of over eighty countries; 
  • > the CNUE (Conseil des Notariats de l’Union Européenne): a partnership of notariats within the European Union.
