De KNB heeft diverse werkgroepen, issuegroepen en commissies waar (kandidaat-)notarissen zitting in hebben. Zij komen regelmatig bij elkaar en brengen advies uit aan het bestuur.

Binnen de KNB zijn er verschillende specialistenverenigingen, waarvan (kandidaat-)notarissen lid kunnen worden. Deze verenigingen hebben als doel de vakkennis van hun leden op peil te houden.

'Wij zijn ONS' is een notarieel netwerk met bi-culturele kandidaat-notarissen. Het netwerk vervult een brugfunctie en wil het werk van de notaris dichter bij mensen brengen die de weg naar de notaris nog niet weten te vinden.

The KNB promotes the provision of an accessible quality service by the Dutch notarial profession. The organisation also maintains contact with the business community, politics and media and informs consumers about the services provided by notaries.

All notaries and deputy (civil law) notaries are automatically members of the KNB. They are organised into chapters. The KNB also has a board, a members’ council and a general meeting of members. The secretariat of the KNB assists the board in the exercise of its duties.

The KNB assists notaries and deputy (civil law) notaries in their day-to-day practice by providing a wide range of services.

Consumers who have questions about notarial services can contact the information line for all kinds of information. KNB also provides the website Notaris.nl for the general public. If consumers have a dispute with a notary, they can ask the KNB to mediate.

Often, people who enter into financial obligations may not appreciate the scope of their commitments. It is then time to call in an expert: the notary or deputy (civil law) notary. He provides advice and arranges for his client’s affairs to be properly regulated in law.

Notarial acts are documents in which agreements and declarations are legally recorded. It is compulsory for some types of agreement to be included in a notarial act. Only then are they valid.

Notaries and deputy (civil law) notaries deal with matters of private law (also referred to as civil law). Private law involves legal relations between persons, i.e. natural persons (individuals) and legal persons. Private law as dealt with by notaries and deputy (civil law) notaries can also be divided into the following areas.

Anyone wishing to be appointed to the office of notary must fulfil the requirements laid down by law.

All notaries and deputy (civil law) notaries have obtained a degree in notarial law from a Dutch university. However, notaries have been appointed to their office and thus have the power to sign notarial acts and to own their own office. An assigned notary is entitled to sign notarial acts, but he is not an entrepreneur.

Het notariaat in Nederland heeft als missie om consumenten en ondernemers rechtszekerheid en rechtsbescherming te bieden. De komende jaren richt de KNB zich op 3 doelstellingen: maatschappelijke relevantie, toegang tot het recht en aantrekkelijkheid van het ambt.

De KNB wil de Wet op het notarisambt, oftewel de Wna, beter laten aansluiten op de huidige praktijk van het notariaat en de notaris van morgen.
